Samburu District – Northern Kenya
Ol
Malo is the most tasteful expression of Kenyan lifestyle and the
permanent home to hosts, Kenyan born Colin & Rocky Francombe.
Four thoughtfully designed cottages cling to the edge of a dramatic
lava cliff with a breathtaking rockface swimming pool built on the
cliff’s edge – a panorama of mountain views stretching
to Mt Kenya in the distance – and down below a quiet watering
hole attracts a stream of visitors.
Colin &
Rocky are great company, exceptionally welcoming hosts, as well
as being respected naturalists who are deeply devoted to the protection
of both native Samburu tradition and the conservation of the varied
wildlife in the area.
Ol
Malo is one of the most comfortable and stunning safari lodges in
Kenya.
In addition to the lodge is Ol Malo House – the house has a large sitting
room, dining room, library and 6 ensuite double bedrooms and can
only be booked on an exclusive basis for private parties of up to 12 guests.
Summary:
4 guest cottages are spread out along the
cliff edge and are uniquely built out of natural rock & ancient
olive wood, with thatched roofs. Sink into the sofas in the sitting
room and a short walk across the lawn to the dining room which is
a testament to the meaning ‘Room with a View’.
Activities:
- gameviewing
by vehicle, on foot, on horseback or camel
- for
the brave – an overnight in the Look Out Hut which lies
just by the waterhole & is fitted with bunk beds
- of
special interest here is the Francombe’s close association
with the local Samburu community
