Private Guide
Pierre Jaunet is a very talented Frenchman who is also fluent in English, Arabic and Swahili and can get by in many other European languages and African dialects. He has spent well night 40 years taking small parties on safari in Africa having started off in one time French colonies in North Africa when he became one of the leading experts on the Sahara and in due course going south to concentrate on countries in southern Africa.
All told some would say that he knows Africa better than any other living white man. Thus it was not surprising that in the late 1980’s he launched the Catalina Safari Company to acquire a World War II Catalina Flying Boat to do 23 day safari trips taking off from the Nile in Cairo and finishing at the old Imperial Airways jetty on the Zambezi at Victoria Falls. We know of no one else who would have had the imagination, determination and patience to get such an operation off the ground in Africa. Happily Bushbuck Safaris was privileged to be the Managing Agent of that company until the mid 1990’s when the aircraft was sold to a good home in New Zealand.
Nowadays Pierre runs a successful safari operation in Botswana mainly for the French market but in his off season between November and March he can sometimes be persuaded to take small parties in his land rover on very special tailor made itineraries well off the beaten track. |
