Selous Reserve – Southern Tanzania
Beho
Beho Camp, being the first camp to be sited in the vast Selous Reserve
of southern Tanzania, was placed at the very centre of wildlife
activity and diversity.
From
Beho Beho it is possible to explore a unique array of habitats from
riverine forest, miombo woodland and plains to the fascinating lake
regions. Or just stay in camp for some excellent gameviewing –
the camp appears to be on a crossroads of migratory routes, the
animals seem to appear totally unconcerned and can be seen wandering
through camp at any time of the day or night – even the wild
dog.
In
2003 the camp underwent a total refurbishment and is now a spectacularly
wonderful camp with stylish cottages which befits its prime location.
We would now rate Beho Beho as the best camp in the Selous.
Summary:
Accommodating 20 guests in luxury, spacious & airy cottages
or ‘bandas’ perched on the slopes of Namikwera Hill
with panoramic views of the Rufiji River floodplain. The main house
is furnished in the style of a private house with comfortable seating
& dining areas. The swimming pool has great views down the valley.
We recommend Bush Nights from Beho Beho – driven
and walk to Beho Beho’s stunning new bush camp for an overnight
stay – the camp has just 2 tents.
Activities:
- early
morning or dusk gamedrives
- short
walking safaris of an hour to 3 hours duration
- boating
on the lakes.
The
Selous is the most wonderful wildlife wilderness which is probably
best known for its large numbers of elephant. It also boasts one
of the largest wild dog populations in Africa.
