Lake Tanganyika – Western Tanzania
Greystoke
Mahale is situated 200 miles down the eastern shores of Lake Tanganyika
in western Tanzania. You couldn’t get much more remote–
there are no roads within 40 miles of camp and even they are dirt
tracks – access is only by light aircraft and then an hour’s
journey by dhow. This unusual camp is stunningly located –at
the base of huge mountains lush with semi-tropical forest, on a
huge crescent of white beach – looking out across the clear
waters of Lake Tanganyika.
This
most spectacular & isolated of settings is home to the world’s
largest known population of chimpanzees, with approximately 1000
individuals inhabiting the Mahale Mountains National Park, making
Greystoke Mahale one of the world’s premiere locations for
observing & photographing chimpanzees.
Greystoke Mahale
is the perfect interlude to a gameviewing itinerary.
