Unlike the Garden Route, our West Coast Route is unspoilt and uncrowded with open roads and unbridled nature. Drive through the West Coast National Park, a few hours up the coast north of Cape Town. The park is nestled between the ocean and a vast lagoon. With ostrich, antelope, flamingos and pelicans in abundance, the area is ideal for walks and beaches. Then continue north along the coast to the quaint fishing village of Paternoster.

Paternoster is the epitome of West Coast: a collection of whitewashed houses, with a handful of excellent small restaurants, oysters, artisans and a distinctly foodie vibe. Known as the ‘Franschoek of the Ocean’, here you can kick off your shoes, take in the sea air and walk along miles of sandy beaches.  We recommend a night or two of West Coast well-being, staying in a gem of a seaside hotel with views to the beach and ocean.

Continuing up to the Cederberg Mountains and Bushman’s Kloof for a few days, we recommend staying at one of our favourite lodges located in its own vast wilderness reserve. From here you can return south through scenic mountain passes to the Winelands, staying in the small picturesque towns of Stellenbosch or Franschoek in the heart of the wine-producing area. From here you can visit vineyards by day, staying in small exquisite hotels by night as you make your way back to Cape Town.

Our itineraries for the Cape are geared to your time constraints, requirements, interests and your preference for self-drive or guided.

The Silo Hotel – Cape Town

There are hotels for everyone and most budgets in Cape Town, but one of the newest is The Silo Hotel on the waterfront which opened in March. A stunning hotel of just 28 rooms located across the upper six floors of a historic grain silo tower, the conversion took three years of construction and the results are hugely innovative.  Beneath is the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) which opened in September. If you are not staying at The Silo, then we can make a reservation for you to access the rooftop bar one evening for the panoramic views of Cape Town and the working harbour.
