Chyulu Hills - Kenya
One of the first small luxury lodges to be built in Kenya originally built by Richard Bonham Ol Donyo Wuas remains a firm favourite there are few places
in Kenya where one can realistically say that on a gamedrive you
are unlikely to see another vehicle – this is one of them.
Guests at Ol Donyo Wuas have exclusive access to a quarter of a
million acres of wilderness - that is around 17,000 acres per guest,
so no worries about crowds here!
As a guest here, you are contributing to Richard Bonham’s
innovative scheme of compensation to the Maasai for cattle lost
to wildlife. This is an endeavour to stop the Maasai warriors from
killing lion in particular. You are also helping to fund the 12
game scouts who protect the resident rhino.
The open plains,
rolling hills and the snow topped Kilimanjaro invoke images of Africa
as it was in the earlier part of the last century. Wildlife &
Maasai herdsmen live, as nature determined they should, in this
unspoilt corner of Kenya.
Summary:
22 guests accommodated in seven stand alone lodges spread out along the hillside, each with its own panoramic view of the plains below with Mt Kilimanjaro as an impressive backdrop. Some lodges are for four guests with their own private swimming pool and sitting room. The central area includes a spacious lounge, dining room and an outdoor brunch area under an acacia tree. The lodge has a horizon swimming pool and a small gift shop which opens on request.
