Welcome to Mozambique
A safari destination in its infancy, unspoilt and uncrowded with beaches of dazzling white sand and turquoise ocean, some spectacular lodges are appearing - with Benguerra Island Lodge in the southern Bazaruto Archipelago remaining a favourite. The diving, snorkelling and fishing is some of the best in the world.
There are daily connections to and from Johannesburg and indeed there are flights from Vilanculos (for Benguerra) to the Kruger - Tanda Tula Camp and Benguerra is a great stress free combination.
It is too early to recommend travelling into the interior of the country, the wildlife was virtually wiped out during the 20 year civil war, huge steps are being made in the right direction and it will only be a matter of time. In the meantime, the 2500km coastline and idyllic islands are fast becoming the top beach destination in Southern Africa. It does involve some travelling to get to Mozambique after a safari in Southern Africa, but it is entirely worth it.
