Skeleton Coast –
Namibia
A visit to the
Skeleton Coast is one of the great safari experiences of Africa
today.
A common theme
with visitors is a tremendous sense of awe at the staggering beauty
of this wild, desolate and uninhabited place. The scenery is on
a grand scale – miles and miles of dunes, rugged mountains,
towering canyons, gorges & wild coastline. The history has an
eerie fascination – remains of shipwrecks, abandoned mines,
stone circles left by forgotten tribes. Inland one wonders just
how the gemsbok & springbok can survive in such a harsh environment.
Almost 300,000
hectares of the Skeleton Coast National Park has been set aside
as an exclusive safari experience for those staying at the 12 bedded
Skeleton Coast Camp.
Gamedrives
can be extraordinary – on one famous gamedrive guests visited the
Himba village, viewed three herds of desert elephant and then found
the Skeleton Coast Lion pride on an Oryx kill.
