This is our favourite island of all time – the moment you touch down here, so the pace of life stops and the natural simplicity of the island takes over. The scene is classic Robinson Crusoe – white sands, swaying palms, warm turquoise seas – the difference is that this island belongs to the birds – beautiful tropical birds that know no fear of man – nesting, courting, preening within an arm’s length – extraordinary to witness at such close quarters. The lodge is the only place to stay on the island, the staff – the only inhabitants. There are no telephones nor televisions, just the lively chatter of the wonderful birdlife and the fascinating turtles to carefully monitor.

It is to everyone’s good fortune that the island and lodge have been owned and operated by the same family for over 30 years – Guy & Marie-France Savy started the lodge back in 1973 – the first guests arrived by boat and stayed in palm-thatched chalets. Their son Nicholas, and his charming wife Jo, have joined the team and are usually hosting the lodge. The future of the island as an important bird sanctuary and a unique getaway is secure.

As each decade passes, and the world becomes busier, so life on Bird Island becomes even more appealing and a relaxing tonic for any visitor.

Summary: 24 recently refurbished chalets each with King Size bed, large shower room comfortable sitting area & spacious patio overlooking the gardens and sea beyond. Seafood is a speciality of the restaurant.

Best Time: Year round but the lodge closes from 1st to 20th December for staff holidays.
