Kapani Bush Camps

South Luangwa National Park – Zambia

Norman Carr Safaris at Kapani Lodge operate four bushcamps situated in remotes areas of the National Park. Back in the 80’s Norman Carr had first pick at the best areas of the Luangwa to site his bush camps – these camps win over any others for location. No visit to Luangwa is complete without staying at one or other of these camps – Kakuli and Luwi being the most traditional & rustic, Nsolo & Mchenja more stylish and luxurious – all accommodating a maximum of just 8 or 10 guests, and offering walking as an option to gamedrives.

For the more adventurous the camps can be combined on a walking safari, walking out of one camp early in the morning and arriving at the next for brunch to find your bags already waiting for you. Walking safaris are not strenuous and are conducted at a pace determined by the guests. A walk will usually last 3 to 4 hours and all walks are led by a fully qualified guide and armed game scout.

Summary:

  • Kakuli Camp has 5 traditional walk-in safari tents located on an elevated stretch of river bank looking down on to grazing wildlife.
  • Luwi Camp is the most rustic and remote camp. The Luwi area is famous for it’s lions & the thrill of tracking them on foot is an experience not to be missed.
  • Nsolo Camp is a romantic camp situated by an eventful waterhole with just four rooms built on raised platforms nestled under a grove of ancient ebony trees.
  • Mchenja Camp is the perfect way to finish a walking safari through the Luangwa Valley – it is a very luxurious, elegant & stylish tented camp overlooking a huge sweeping bend of the Luangwa River. A grass hide close to camp overlooks a deep lagoon providing secretive & close up views of a variety of animals.

Activities:

  • each of the four bush camps specialise in
  • walking safaris
  • though the option to gameview by vehicle is available

Best Time: June to October

Rates (in US dollars): from $480 to $650 per person per night depending on which camp and month of travel. Single supplement of $180 per night in the July to October peak season.
