How time flies … it was June 1989 that Soren first led a safari for our guests in Botswana and so the association between Soren & Bushbuck began. Over the years, Soren has led countless safaris in Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Each safari has been different and every one a success such is the genius of Soren. One couple from Los Angeles have been on 15 safaris with Bushbuck and Soren.
Soren started guiding at the age of 18. His was not a traditional upbringing – raised on a coffee farm in Kenya, he started hunting as a young boy and spent more time in the bush than out of it. He qualified as a professional hunter and worked in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Sudan until 1977, before moving to Botswana and joining Ker Downey & Selby Safaris. In 1989 Soren started guiding photographic safaris and so began his reputation as one of Africa’s leading private guides, a legend in guiding circles.
Soren is a committed birder and having spent so many years walking through the bush, his knowledge of Africa’s plants and fragile ecology is seemingly endless. Like all hunters, he has eyes like a hawk. He is also a fascinating raconteur and his old-timer stories around the camp fire are always amusing and bring Africa to life for many.
Over the past 50 years, he has guided private parties from all corners of the globe. Several articles and books have been written about Soren including publications in The Times, The New York Times and The Australian Times.
